New York - Chrysler Group and SIRIUS Satellite Radio announced today that Chrysler Group will be the first and only auto manufacturer to offer SIRIUS Backseat TV™ in its vehicle lineup in the 2008 model year.

For the first time, TV programming from the most trusted brands in family entertainment—Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network—will be available through SIRIUS Backseat TV™ in select 2008 model Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles, beginning with the all-new 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.

"Chrysler Group is committed to offering innovative technologies that are right for our customers," said Frank Klegon, Executive Vice President – Product Development, Chrysler Group. "SIRIUS Backseat TV™ makes its world debut in Chrysler Group's all-new 2008 minivans, combining with innovative features that include a dual DVD system that can play different media at the same time, MyGIG™ Multimedia Infotainment System, and our unique Swivel ‘n Go™ seat system, offering more options for families on the go. No one else in the marketplace offers their customers this combination of innovative technology."

SIRIUS Backseat TV™ features three channels of respected children's TV featuring many of the most well-known kids' programming, including Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network. Rear-seat passengers will be able to watch shows such as Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants," Disney Channel's "Cory in the House," and Cartoon Network's "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends."

SIRIUS Backseat TV™ will also be available on the 2008 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

SIRIUS Backseat TV™ operates via an in-vehicle satellite video receiver and two small roof-mounted antennas. Programming is displayed on the vehicle's second- and/or third-row video screens, and channel name, program title and rating will be broadcast and displayed on the screen(s). For added flexibility, rear-seat passengers can enjoy SIRIUS Backseat TV™ while front-seat occupants listen to SIRIUS Satellite Radio. The system can be operated from either the rear-seat entertainment unit or the radio head unit. In addition, when the vehicle is in park, programming can be displayed on the MyGIG screen for front-seat viewing.

SIRIUS Backseat TV™ is available for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $470—which includes the first year of service—when packaged with Chrysler Group's Rear Seat Entertainment System and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. All-new 2008 Chrysler and Dodge minivans
The all-new 2008 Dodge and Chrysler minivans once again prove they have the right ingredients to be the best vehicles to move people and cargo. With 35 new and improved features, the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country aren't just practical vehicles, they also have the right mix to be "family rooms on wheels," with something for everyone to enjoy. With three powertrains, three seating and storage systems, including the industry-exclusive Stow 'n Go® seating and storage system with second- and third-row seats that fold into the floor, the new Swivel ‘n Go seat system and five models to choose from, the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan raise the bar for the minivan segment.

The newest ingredient for 2008 is the all-new Swivel 'n Go seating system. Swivel 'n Go offers second-row seats that swivel 180 degrees to face the third row with a removable table that installs between the two rows, covered storage bins in the floor of the second row, third-row uncovered storage and fold-in-the-floor third-row seating. The 2008 Dodge and Chrysler minivans also offer an available minivan-exclusive one-touch power-folding third-row 60/40 bench seat.

Safety is a key part of any minivan recipe, and that continues to be true with the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. All-row supplemental side-curtain air bags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with traction control and brake assist, LATCH child seat anchor system and a patented, energy-absorbing steering column are among the standard safety features. Aspen Joins Chrysler Group Hybrid Lineup

And Yeah, It's Gotta HEMI®!

  • Chrysler Aspen Hybrid joins Dodge Durango Hybrid in 2008
  • Vehicles feature 5.7-liter HEMI® Hybrid with Multi-displacement System (MDS)
  • HEMI Hybrid delivers more than 25-percent fuel economy improvement
  • Full-size SUVs to boast nearly 40-percent mpg improvement in the city
  • Chrysler Group's advanced hybrid system leapfrogs traditional hybrid design

That new Chrysler Aspen Hybrid gotta HEMI®?

Yes, it does—as does the new Dodge Durango Hybrid. Both vehicles, powered by Chrysler Group's all-new 5.7-liter HEMI Hybrid powertrain, debut next year as the first volume-production hybrid offerings from the Chrysler Group and the first vehicles to feature DaimlerChrysler's advanced two-mode hybrid technology.

"The all-new Chrysler Group HEMI Hybrid will offer our customers the best of both worlds: renowned performance and significantly improved fuel economy," said Frank Klegon, Executive Vice President–Product Development, Chrysler Group. "With the new HEMI-powered Chrysler Aspen Hybrid, we are delivering the ultimate combination of fuel efficiency, overall performance and capability in a premium full-size SUV."

The new 5.7-liter HEMI Hybrid is expected to deliver an overall fuel economy improvement of more than 25 percent, including an improvement of nearly 40 percent in the city.

The HEMI powerplant, in hybrid form, will continue to feature Chrysler Group's Multi-displacement System (MDS), which allows the engine to seamlessly alternate between four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power is in demand. For the fifth year in a row—and every year since its 2003 re-introduction—Chrysler Group's famous 5.7-liter HEMI engine has earned a place on Ward's 10 Best Engines list.

The new Chrysler Aspen Hybrid and Dodge Durango Hybrid vehicles represent a bold change in what is generally a "me too" category. Chrysler Group's full-size hybrid vehicles will deliver seamless dependable power on demand in an efficient package. With an electrically variable transmission (featuring two electric motors), two full hybrid modes of operation, and four fixed mechanical gear ratios, the drive system improves fuel economy around town and at highway speeds.

Chrysler Aspen

Boasting elegant Chrysler styling, unsurpassed capability and performance and abundant premium amenities, the Chrysler Aspen is a premium SUV that is a value alternative to luxury-priced competitors. Offering more for less, Aspen features numerous premium features, elegant Chrysler design, 30 safety features and best-in-class horsepower, torque and interior room.

Two-mode Hybrid

Chrysler Group's two-mode hybrid powertrain—jointly developed by DaimlerChrysler, General Motors and the BMW Group—represents a major automotive industry milestone due to the unprecedented fully integrated combination of electric motors with a fixed-gear transmission.

As a result of the low- and high-speed electric continuously variable transmission (ECVT) modes, the system is commonly referred to as the two-mode hybrid. However, the sophisticated fuel-saving system also incorporates four fixed gear ratios for high efficiency and power-handling capabilities in a broad variety of vehicle applications. The new Chrysler Aspen Hybrid and Dodge Durango Hybrid vehicles can be powered either by the electric motors or by the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine—or a combination of the two. During the two ECVT modes and four fixed-gear operations, the hybrid system can use the electric motors for boosting and/or regenerative braking. When full power is needed, the system automatically adjusts for passing, driving steep grades or hauling a trailer. The result is trend-setting hybrid technology that provides superior fuel economy, performance and load-carrying capability.

Joint Development Center

Located in Troy, Mich., the DaimlerChrysler, GM, and BMW Hybrid Development Center jointly developed the overall modular two-mode hybrid system and the individual components: electric motors, transmission, high-voltage battery, high-performance electronics, wiring, safety systems, energy management, and hybrid system control units. In addition, the Hybrid Development Center is responsible for system integration and project management.

Chrysler Group Advanced Propulsion Technology

Hybrid technology is one part of Chrysler Group's advanced propulsion technology umbrella, which also includes efficient gasoline engines, advanced clean-diesel technology, and ethanol flex-fuel and zero-emission fuel cell vehicles. DaimlerChrysler is the only automaker building plug-in hybrids and testing them with customers in the United States.

DaimlerChrysler Closes Transaction on Transfer of Majority Interest in Chrysler to Cerberus
  • Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board
of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG and
Head of Mercedes Car Group: "Today marks
a new chapter in the history of our company."
  • Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting to decide
on change of name on October 4, 2007
Stuttgart, Germany, August 03, 2007
DaimlerChrysler (stock-exchange abbreviation DCX) today completed the closing for the transfer of a majority interest in the Chrysler Group and for the related financial services business in NAFTA to a subsidiary of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., a private-equity company based in New York. A subsidiary of Cerberus takes over 80.1% in the Chrysler Holding LLC, while DaimlerChrysler retains a 19.9% interest, as announced in May 2007.
The effects on the financial statements of DaimlerChrysler will be explained on August 29, 2007.
Basically, the conditions of the transaction and the economic effects have not changed since the agreement was signed on May 14, 2007. Furthermore, DaimlerChrysler and Cerberus have agreed to support the financing of the majority takeover of Chrysler by Cerberus in light of highly volatile US loan markets. Both companies will subscribe $2 billion of second lien debt for Chrysler's automotive business, to be drawn within 12 months. DaimlerChrysler's portion will be $1.5 billion. The debt will be priced at market conditions. One year after the closing, DaimlerChrysler has the right to sell this loan in the credit market. The maturity of this loan is 7 years.
DaimlerChrysler's financing support is a strong sign of its overall determination to make sure that, under the majority of Cerberus, Chrysler has a good start as a successful stand-alone car company.
As of today, the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG is reduced to six members: Tom LaSorda, Eric Ridenour and Tom Sidlik are no longer members. Within the Board of Management, Bodo Uebber additionally assumes responsibility for procurement.
Due to the new corporate structure, DaimlerChrysler AG is to be renamed as Daimler AG. The shareholders are to decide on this change at an Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting in Berlin on October 4, 2007.
Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG and Head of the Mercedes Car Group: "Today marks a new chapter in the history of our company. Based on the clearly defined strategies in our Mercedes Car Group, Truck Group, Financial Services business divisions and for vans and buses, and our company's healthy balance sheet, we have every reason to move confidently into the future."
